The Brain Injury Foundation of St. Louis

Visiting The Brain Injury Foundation of St. Louis & Dura Mater Clubhouse

Our Assistance Home Care Team recently had the privilege of touring the Brain Injury Foundation of St. Louis, a nonprofit that provides community-based support and meaningful opportunities for adults living with brain injuries, including those caused by stroke or trauma.

Founded on a vision of empowerment and inclusion, the Brain Injury Foundation strives to meet the social and vocational needs of individuals with brain injuries through programs grounded in skill development, transitional employment, connection, and independence.

Touring The Dura Mater Clubhouse: A Shared Community Space For Individuals With Brain Injury

One of the core offerings we saw firsthand was the Dura Mater Clubhouse program, a structured, engaging space where members participate in real work tasks, peer support, and shared responsibilities. Whether organizing the schedule for the day, learning computer skills, engaging in a memory game or planning and preparing meals, every activity is designed to build capability and confidence for its members.

What truly stood out during our visit was the sense of purpose, positivity and mutual support in the room. Members were actively engaged and happy to socialize with our Team while staying true to the agenda they had set for the day ahead.  This coordinated and collaborative structure in the clubhouse was a true testament to the power of community-centered healing and belonging.

This year, the Brain Injury Foundation of St. Louis is celebrating 10 years of service and advocacy, honoring a decade of helping individuals reconnect with life, work, and community. This milestone reflects not only longevity but deep impact on the lives of those they serve.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to witness their work and left our visit truly inspired by the stories shared by each member and their incredible resilience and progress they’ve made with the support of the professionals at the Brain Injury Foundation of St. Louis.
