How Home Care Works Alongside Hospice

We work alongside your hospice team to provide consistent, non-medical support in the home.

Hospice and palliative care teams focus on medical care, symptom management, and emotional support. Our role is to be there in between visits, helping with the day-to-day needs that don’t stop when the nurse leaves.

For many families, this means:

  • More consistent comfort and care
  • A steady presence in the home
  • Relief from trying to manage everything alone

Because even with an incredible hospice team, there are still many hours in the day where extra support matters most.

Every situation is different, but here’s what support might look like:

  • Assistance with bathing and getting comfortable
  • Medication reminders

Midday

  • Light meal preparation
  • Companionship and conversation
  • Repositioning for comfort

Evening

  • Help settling in for the night
  • Toileting and hygiene support
  • Ensuring a calm, safe environment

Overnight (if needed)

  • Monitoring for safety
  • Assistance as needs arise
  • Peace of mind for the family

When Is It Time to Bring In Home Care During Hospice?

Many families don’t realize they need additional support until they’re already overwhelmed.

It may be time to bring in a caregiver if:

  • You’re feeling exhausted or unsure how to keep up
  • Your loved one needs help between hospice visits
  • Nights or early mornings feel especially difficult
  • You’re worried about safety when no one is there
  • You want to spend more time being present, not managing care

If you’re asking the question, it’s usually worth having a conversation.
