SSM Unveils Missouri’s First Neuro Transitional Center: A Game-Changer for Neurological Recovery in St. Louis
Yesterday’s SSM Work Comp Seminar in Chesterfield was once again packed wall-to-wall with healthcare professionals, care advocates, and industry leaders. It was a day full of meaningful conversations and inspiring updates—but one moment stood out above the rest: the announcement of SSM’s brand new Neuro Transitional Center (NTC), shared by our gracious hosts and event sponsors, SSM Health.
This state-of-the-art facility, set to open this June in O’Fallon, is poised to fill a critical gap in the continuum of care for patients recovering from serious neurological events. Under the trusted leadership of Tara Sanders, Vice President of the SSM Day Institute and a dedicated physical therapist with 26 years of service, the NTC will offer something truly unique: a warm, functional, and empowering space to support patients as they move from inpatient rehab toward independence.
What Makes the Neuro Transitional Center So Special?
- 12 private, apartment-style rooms that feel like home—not a hospital.
- A skilled team of PTs, OTs, speech therapists, RNs, LPNs, and neuro coaches.
- Functional therapy built into everyday life: cooking, laundry, self-care.
- 3 community outings per week with staff-provided transportation.
- Advanced speech and swallow therapy with IDC-certified training.
- Targeted 90-day stays, adjusted to meet individual recovery timelines.
This is the first center of its kind in the St. Louis region, eliminating the need to send patients out of the area for this level of support. And with its prime location just off Highway 70 in O’Fallon, it’s easily accessible for families across the metro area.
