What Is Aging Ahead?

Aging Ahead is a nonprofit organization that provides essential services to support older adults and their caregivers across the Greater St. Louis Area. From Meals on Wheels and community programs to wellness checks and senior centers, Aging Ahead’s mission is to empower aging adults to live with honor and independence.

The organization partners with community members, volunteers, and local champions to deliver real support to individuals who are often navigating aging-related challenges. Through these collaborative efforts, Aging Ahead truly delivers a difference—and Allen Serfas has been a proud part of that mission for well over a decade.

A Legacy of Volunteerism and Compassion

Allen has served on the Aging Ahead Foundation Board for nearly 15 years, offering his time, talent, and leadership to advance the organization’s efforts. Whether advocating for seniors in need, raising awareness of vital resources, or supporting Aging Ahead’s annual events and fundraising initiatives, Allen’s involvement has always been fueled by a deep sense of purpose.

What sets Allen’s service apart is not just his professional expertise, but the heart behind it. His work is driven by personal experience—an experience that continues to shape the way he leads and the way Assistance Home Care shows up for families every day.

About the Aging Ahead Foundation

Aging Ahead Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to provide financial assistance for the continued operation of the programs and services of Aging Ahead.  The Foundation Board, representing all four counties in our service area, is made up of passionate volunteers committed to the Agency and those we serve.

Why This Mission Matters So Much to Allen

Allen’s connection to Aging Ahead goes far beyond the boardroom. Years ago, as his wife Sally’s parents began to face the challenges of aging—particularly during her mother’s journey with dementia—Aging Ahead was there to help.

Through home-delivered meals and regular visits from volunteers, Aging Ahead and the Meals on Wheels program offered more than just nutrition and check-ins. They brought kindness, comfort, and connection into Sally’s parents’ home during an incredibly difficult time.

Those small acts of compassion left a lasting impact—not only on Sally and her family, but on Allen himself. Witnessing the profound difference that one caring person can make lit a spark in Allen as he began his own journey into the senior care space.

Inspiring Others to Deliver a Difference

Today, Allen continues to serve Aging Ahead with the same energy and empathy that sparked his involvement years ago. This award is a reflection of his steadfast dedication—but even more, it’s a reminder of the power each of us has to step up and make a difference.

We hope Allen’s story and recognition as the Aging Ahead Volunteer of the Year for 2025 inspires others in our community to do just that. Whether it’s through volunteering, spreading awareness, or becoming an Aging Ahead Champion, there are so many meaningful ways to get involved with Aging Ahead.
