Creating More Bright Moments in Care: Assistance Home Care Welcomes Bristol Hospice’s Bright Moments Program
At Assistance Home Care, our mission has always been to support families in helping their loved ones age in place with compassion, dignity and respect. Recently, our Team had the opportunity to welcome Bristol Hospice of St. Louis into our Training Home to share a demonstration of their Bright Moments Program — an innovative, research-supported kit of tools and interventions designed to spark comfort, connection, and joy for patients and families navigating some of life’s most tender moments.
This program is not only for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s, but for all patients receiving care through Bristol Hospice. And now, thanks to our collaboration, families, Care Professionals, and healthcare partners who visit our Training Home will be able to learn how to use these tools in real-life care situations.
What Is the Bright Moments Program?
The Bright Moments Program is based on the belief that even during advanced illness, patients and families can experience meaningful moments of light, joy, and connection. Rather than relying solely on medication or traditional interventions, Bright Moments offers a non-pharmacological approach that supports patients, loved ones, caregivers, and care teams through comfort-focused tools.
The program emphasizes individualized care and is supported by research that demonstrates how sensory-based therapies and adaptive interventions can improve quality of life, reduce agitation, and foster calmness.

Some of the items featured in the Bright Moments Kit include:
-
Music Therapy Resources: Familiar songs and rhythms that can unlock memories, ease anxiety, and create shared moments between patients and loved ones.
-
Weighted Blanket & Bristol Therapy Bear: Offering gentle pressure, warmth, and calming lavender aromatherapy to provide reassurance and reduce restlessness.
-
Adaptive Utensils: A specially designed cup and weighted spoon that make daily routines easier and preserve dignity for those with tremors or mobility challenges.
-
Sensory Engagement Device: A tool that provides tactile, visual, or auditory stimulation to promote relaxation and comfort.
Each element is thoughtfully chosen to help families and caregivers create bright moments — moments where stress eases and connection shines through.
Why This Matters for Families and Care Professionals
End-of-life journeys can feel overwhelming for patients and their families. Hospice and palliative care services are designed to provide holistic comfort, but the support of trained Care Professionals in the home can make an extraordinary difference.
That’s where Assistance Home Care comes in. Our Care Professionals often work side-by-side with hospice and palliative care teams to extend care, fill in gaps, and offer peace of mind to families. By introducing the Bright Moments Kit into our Training Home, we’re giving Care Pros hands-on experience with tools they can use to:
-
Encourage family involvement: Families often want to help but don’t know how. Teaching them how to offer music, a warm blanket, or a sensory activity gives them meaningful ways to connect.
-
Promote comfort beyond medical interventions: While medication plays a role, these simple, non-invasive tools can reduce agitation and promote relaxation in ways that feel deeply human.
-
Preserve dignity and independence: Adaptive utensils or soothing sensory aids help patients maintain routines that bring normalcy, even in difficult stages.
-
Create moments of joy: A familiar song, a shared laugh with a therapy bear, or a calm evening wrapped in a weighted blanket — these are the moments families remember.
Collaboration in Action
Collaboration between Assistance Home Care and Bristol Hospice is vital in bringing forward resources that empower families, healthcare providers, and Care Professionals alike. Hospice services focus on comfort, symptom management, and emotional support. Home care provides consistent, day-to-day assistance and companionship. Together, we create a continuum of care that ensures no family feels alone.
By making the Bright Moments Kit available in our Training Home, we’re giving caregivers the chance to learn, practice, and build confidence in how to use these tools in everyday care. Families who tour or train with us will walk away with practical strategies they can use immediately, and Care Pros will feel equipped to bring these interventions into the homes of those we serve.
Our Commitment to Families
At Assistance Home Care, we believe aging in place is more than a preference — it’s a promise we work to honor for every family. Whether a loved one is receiving hospice services, palliative care, or simply needs extra support to remain safe and comfortable at home, our Care Professionals are dedicated to helping families create as many bright moments as possible.
With the help of Bristol Hospice’s Bright Moments Program, we’re expanding the resources we can share. These tools give caregivers and families hope, comfort, and practical ways to turn ordinary days into meaningful experiences.
